DCSS Christmas message

Please find below a Christmas message from Dick & Janet Collins to all DCSS staff.
Dear all,
Here we are at the end on yet another very busy year. With no Glastonbury or Festival of the Sea we stupidly thought that this might be an easy year, wrong!
Dick and I rarely saw each other from April until September but we were still unable to cover all the jobs ourselves and had to rely on others to supervise some.
We started in April at Bristol with the 200 year Celebration of Brunnel's birth, and on to Cardiff for the Red Bull Challenge. Next was the Tower of London for The Princes' Trust 30th Anniversary. We also worked at Buckingham Palace for the Queen's 80th Birthday Childrens Party. We worked at all our usual shows including Hi Fi, the Student Balls, Highclere Castle, the 5 shows in Hyde Park, Chatsworth House - Jools Holland and West Life, T in the Park, Guilfest, Big Chill, several shows at Lulworth Castle, Global Gathering. Reading, and Leeds. We also did some new shows this year, Hedgestock, Lattitude, Green Man Festival, a couple of shows at Althorp House, the Lydd Airshow and Moto Cross at Winchester plus many others.
I spent nearly three weeks at the World Rowing Championships at Dorney Lake, whilst the rest of you were at Reading or Leeds and then moved into Hyde Park for two weeks at Proms in the Park and then another week for an event for the Royal Parks' Trust at the Lido in Hyde park.
All of this took us up to the middle of September and then on the 30th September Phil married Saifalee at a Civil Ceremony in Manchester.
On 27th October 15 of us, including Mark, Colin, Matt and of course Steven went to Mauritius to Celebrate the 4 day Hindu Wedding which was something to be experienced. The family made us so welcome and we spent 2 weeks being shown the Island and being entertained by a very large extended family. The first event of the wedding was the Henna Night when lots of us had our hands and feet decorated with Henna. The next day was the Blessing and early in the morning of November 4th, the day of the Temple Wedding we attended the cleansing and purification ceremony for Phil. There were over 1,000 guests at the Temple and at the house afterwards. On November 5th the Reception day, when it was just close family and friends there were 300 guests. We had a really good time but needed a holiday on our return.
To round this all off, there was a Lunch for Dick's Mother (who is 94) and family and an Evening Reception at The Kings Hotel in Stokenchurch, on 25th November, for all those not lucky enough to go to Manchester or Mauritius. Quite a few of Saifalee's family we able to come and we had a really good party.
Dick & I have decided that we will have to slow down due to our advanced years and we may not take on the very large events, although if others of the team wish to do so, under the banner of D.C.Site Services, we will support them and organise staff and equipment. Information will be on the website during February with news about which shows we are quoting for, and the Application form, with thanks to Mark, will be operating from March.
Dick and I hope that you and your family are well and that you have a very good Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year.
Janet Collins
